We’re searching for a Projects Safeguarding Officer to join the team in Boone, NC! This position plays a vital role in supporting Samaritan's Purse initiatives to safeguard children and vulnerable adults from exploitation and abuse. This position will focus on fostering a work environment that minimizes the potential for abuse, exploitation of children and vulnerable adults, and workplace sexual harassment. A day in the life of a Project Safeguarding Officer:

At Samaritan’s Purse, the Gospel really is the center of all we do!  We start each day with a time of devotions and spend time praying for each other, our staff and volunteers who serve around the globe. 

In the role of Projects Safeguarding Officer, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him
  • Implement a comprehensive Safeguarding initiative in partnership with all Projects teams, including policy review, training, and awareness
  • Assist Global Safeguarding Officer with investigations as directed by the Compliance Department.
  • Develop and implement appropriate policies/procedures, trainings, initiatives, and communications, in collaboration with and support of the field Safeguarding Officers
  • Remain current with all donor Safeguarding requirements, ensuring Safeguarding language and requirements are adhered to in project proposals and implementation
  • Remain current with Safeguarding trends and best practices
  • Conduct reviews and assessments of safeguarding operations to determine key risk areas, including cultural and safety considerations. Work with Projects leadership to identify program specific issues and methods to manage and mitigate risks
  • Provide technical training and advice to Country Directors, Regional leadership, Protection Officers, and other staff involved in cases of alleged abuse and exploitation to effectively review and address alleged misconduct
  • Liaise with Compliance and Risk department, Global Safeguarding Officer, Projects leadership, and investigative fact finders to incorporate investigation lessons learned into program enhancements, as appropriate
  • Conduct benchmarking with similar organizations operating in similar environments and participates in industry roundtables on safeguarding to ensure that programs incorporate current and best practices
  • Complete ancillary type training on an annual basis
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in relevant field and five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience with international non-profit(s) in humanitarian and development settings, or relevant field experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •  Nonprofit program management skills strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of beneficiary protection from abuse and exploitation in development and humanitarian contexts
  • Thorough knowledge of international protection frameworks and mechanisms
  • Ability to work with vulnerable children and adults
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environments, often in very challenging situations
  • Highly effective capacity building and change management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with competency in the development and delivery of training
  • Ability to develop organizational policies and effective training initiatives
  • 12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies (required); if not already completed, opportunity to meet and complete requirement is available upon hire.

Travel Expectations: Domestic and international travel primarily related to investigations, training, and professional development (approximately 15%); required travel documents and vaccinations for entry into foreign countries will be necessary
