Samaritan’s Purse is seeking a Global Technical Advisor, Agriculture and Livelihoods to join the Technical Advisors team at our location in North Wilkesboro, NC. As a Global Agriculture and Livelihoods Advisor, you will develop, support, and expand agriculture and livelihoods programs in Samaritan’s Purse field offices. Provide technical guidance to sector field staff, and ensure that these programs best serve the rural livelihood needs and promote the economic recovery and resilience of target communities. A day in the life of a Global Technical Advisor, Agriculture and Livelihoods:

In the role of Global Technical Advisor, Agriculture and Livelihoods, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him
  • Central resource center for all Samaritan’s Purse Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) programming
  • Works with Deputy Director, Regional Directors, and Country Directors to prioritize countries to assess and develop project proposals addressing agriculture-related needs
  • Works with Regional Directors and Country Directors to build capacity of agriculture/food security and livelihoods (FSL) program managers and coordinators through training, development, and delivery
  • Establishes relationships with Samaritan’s Purse sector staff, in-field partners, and community stakeholders to facilitate program implementation with high participation and empowerment of local communities
  • Collaborates with Learning and Program Support Team to curate and disseminate relevant sector resources, tools, and knowledge for field office staff
  • Provides professional technical input and review of field-level sector reports and proposals
  • Connects International Headquarter’s technical resources, Samaritan’s Purse Affiliate Offices, and sector staff across all field offices for optimization of sector programming
  • Develops professional knowledge and skills to stay current of trends in the global agriculture and livelihoods sector
  • Travels to field sites as needed for temporary assigned field responsibility, project assessment, or other work as assigned
  • Participates in Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) deployments and serves on the Incident Management Team (IMT) as assigned
  • Assists in interviewing to select qualified candidates to fill sector positions in the field as requested by regional and country leadership teams
  • Provides assessments and proposal writing as needed. This includes guidance regarding market analysis to inform program implementation and the development of assessment instruments and tools
  • Follows policies and procedures of Samaritan’s Purse as set forth in the Policy Manual
  • Maintains a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public
  • Attends daily morning devotions and participates in prayer support for the ministry, donors and volunteers
  • Other duties may be assigned that are not specifically identified within the content of the job description

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agricultural Science, Agricultural Economics, International or Rural Development, Veterinary Science, Agronomy, Agroecology, or related field
  • 5-10 years related experience and/or training (required)
  • Experience with humanitarian or development Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) programming, including climate smart agriculture, asset transfer, participatory or community-based engagement, and market-based economic recovery programming (preferred)
  • Significant international experience. Demonstrated success in cross-cultural communication and ministries (preferred)
  • Knowledge of foreign languages (especially French and/or Spanish) is helpful
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to work with a diverse team in a pressured environment
  • Proven ability to work creatively and independently. A strong team player and adept at creating a strong team spirit
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams across the organization
  • Working knowledge of MS Office software, including Word, Excel and Outlook is required
  • Ability to travel and work in difficult conditions under pressure. Frequent international travel will be required

Job Location: North Wilkesboro, NC

Type: Full-Time

Language Requirement: Fluency in English (required). Knowledge of foreign languages (especially French and/or Spanish) is helpful.

Travel Expectations: Frequent International travel. Around 25% per year. Maintaining required travel documents and vaccinations for entry into foreign countries will be necessary.
