A day in the life of a Finance Coordinator

At Samaritan’s Purse, the Gospel really is the center of all we do!  We start each day with a time of devotions and prayer. We hear from members of our staff, both from IHQ and our global offices, as well as special guest speakers who encourage us in God’s word. We then join together to pray for one another, as well as praying for staff and volunteers who serve around the globe. We get paid to start each day this way! 

Job Duties

  • Supports the Senior Manager of Field Finance, as well as North American Ministries (NAM), Mission Aviation Services (MAS), and Facilities leadership with financial information and transaction assistance as needed. 
  • Serves as a first point of contact for financial inquiries from supported departments and field sites.
  • Enters purchasing card, fuel card, and petty cash account transactions daily on the related Serenic import sheets. Submits import sheets on a monthly basis for North American Ministries (NAM), Mission Aviation Services (MAS), and Facilities.
  • Reviews purchasing card usage reports and provides day-to-day receipt reconciliation of the P-Card program for assigned programs.
  • Supports disaster responses, including occasional availability for requests that may occur outside of normal business hours.
  • Coordinates with vendors, and initiates invoice payment process per departmental policies. Processes invoices in a timely manner.
  • Processes employee expense reports and non-employee reimbursements. Ensures all documentation is in place for both expense reports and payment requests, and submits them for processing in a timely manner.
  • Provides support to the Senior Field Finance Manager and Finance Analyst for financial reporting
  • Prepares and submits GIK forms for processing.
  • Follows applicable departmental finance procedures.
  • Follows policies and procedures of Samaritan’s Purse as set forth in the Policy Manual.
  • Maintains a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public.
  • Attends daily morning devotions and participates in prayer support for the ministry, its donors, and volunteers.
  • Other duties may be assigned that are not specifically identified within the content of the job description.

In the role of Finance Coordinator, you will be primarily responsible for initiating payment requests and expense reimbursements for North American Ministries (NAM), Mission Aviation Services (MAS), and Facilities. Administers day-to-day financial correspondence and completes additional administrative duties as needed for the Field Finance team.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A personal, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and desire to continue being an active, consistent witness for Him.
  • Associate’s degree and one (1) to two (2) years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2+ years related experience and/or training (required).
  • Attention to detail (required).
  • Preparing and maintaining a variety of forms, records, reports, and documentation. 
  • Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to work with a diverse team in a pressured environment.
  • Proven ability to work creatively and independently. A strong team player and adept at creating a strong team spirit.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook (required).
