A day in the life of a Roving Program Support Officer

At Samaritan’s Purse, the Gospel really is the center of all we do!  We start each day with a time of devotions and prayer.  We hear from members of our staff, both from IHQ and our global offices, as well special guest speakers who encourage us in God’s word.  We then join together to prayer for one another, as well as praying for staff and volunteers who serve around the globe.  We get paid to start each day this way! 

NOTE: Position is based in our North Wilkesboro, NC office. We are unable to support remote based work at this time. 

Job Duties

  • Provide in-country surge support and staffing-gap coverage for international field offices for up to 30 day s at a time, providing technical assistance and support for programs development, implementation, coordination, and assembling of project proposals and reports. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Develop concept notes, proposals and budgets for both internal and external donor consideration (ex. WFP, UNHCR, UNICEF, GAC, DFID, USAID, OFDA, FFP, ASHA).
    • Advise and manage the writing process for internal/external project reports.
    • Oversee the submission of proposals and reports through the IHQ review process.
    • Ensure that proposals and implementation plans align with relevant internal requirements and international standards through active coordination with technical advisors.
    • Support field office teams in program implementation and management.
    • Mentor and build the capacity of field staff in skills related to program development and program cycle management.
  • Support the Samaritan's Purse Apprenticeship Program by serving as the Program track instructor. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Revising and updating track curriculum
    • Teaching apprentice cohorts in a classroom setting
    • Assisting in the conversion of course content into online platforms
  • Support the IHQ Program Management team in development and delivery of team tasks.
  • Support the work of Disaster Assistance Response and Incident Management Teams as required, including deployment to disaster settings

Qualifications & Experience

  • Maintain a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ
  • Four year college or university program certificate and three (3) to five (5) years related experience and/or training in program management methodologies; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred
  • Experience in grant writing or program management required
  • Experience working for humanitarian organizations or international NGOs strongly preferred.
  • Experience working for Samaritan’s Purse international field office in a program role strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge and experience with the grant submission processes and donor requirements of major donors including the UN, DFID, and USAID strongly preferred
  • Ability to teach and train teams in a classroom setting for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment including disaster situations

Type (Full-Time/Part-Time/Associate): Full-time

Travel Expectations: Frequent international travel - estimated 120 days per year. Maintaining required travel documents and vaccinations for entry into foreign countries will be necessary.
