A day in the life of a Family Camp Ministry Program Manager, Iraq

At Samaritan’s Purse, the Gospel really is the center of all we do!  We start each day with a time of devotions and prayer. We hear from members of our staff, both from IHQ and our global offices, as well as special guest speakers who encourage us in God’s word. Start in May 2021. Open-ended contract for an 8-month 2021 project with the potential for longer. Dependent on funding.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for overall implementation of the home refurbishment and reconstruction program.
  • Carry forward ministry vision for families in camp to know the Hope and Healing of Jesus Christ through family care programming and discipleship.
  • Maintain quality of PSS programming for parents and children, according to protection guidelines.
  • Expand the depth of family programming and develop referral pathways in and outside of camp where applicable.
  • Build the capacity of CFS team members to ensure that Child Protection guidelines are followed and that necessary follow-up referrals are made.
  • Ensure and oversee the integration of biblical content into CFS and parent programming.
  • Support ministry staff in evangelism and discipleship to interested individuals and families.
  • Strategically carry out culturally appropriate community outreach activities that will lead to discipleship groups.
  • Develop church and local ministry partnership where possible that can support in staff training and receive new believer referrals.
  • Manage a team of 12-15 IDP and out of camp staff including recruitment, training, appraisal, management, general well-being, job descriptions, work schedules, discipline, conflict resolution and capacity-building.
  • Initiate the purchasing of all program materials, supporting logistics staff in the coordination and quality control of supplies, according to SP procurement policies and program budget.
  • Supervise and monitor activity plans, reporting systems for data collection (qualitative and quantitative), analysis and follow-up and feedback of projects.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and final).
  • Contribute to the development of appropriate policies, guidelines and protocols for the protection of PSS aspects and ministry aspects of Samaritan’s Purse work in country, in consultation with Headquarters’ advisors, other field coordinators, and in line with relevant government, Sphere, and Protection guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other NGOs, donors, and partners with the objective of representing Samaritan’s Purse well and facilitating co-operation and partnerships.

In the role of Family Camp Ministry Program Manager, you will provide oversight and direction to in-camp family and ministry programming in IDP camps in Iraq.  Management responsibilities include overseeing program implementation, assisting in proposal writing and development, managing staff, and leading hiring, capacity-building, procurement, regular reporting and program quality control. The Family Camp Ministry Program Manager must be responsible for carrying out programming according to SP’s ministry standards and ensuring psycho-social support (PSS) programming for adults and children meets Sphere and protection guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A personal, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and desire to continue being an active, consistent witness for Him.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university.
  • 2-4+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in the fields of Protection, Ministry, and/or Psychosocial Support (highly desired).
  • Proven management and leadership experience.
  • Experience in project management in various sectors including proposal writing, program development, implementation, and monitoring/evaluating methodologies.
  • Experience working and living in Middle Eastern cultures (preferred), with ability to be flexible and adaptable.
  • Ability to travel and work in difficult conditions under pressure, and the ability to operate independently.
  • Strong planning, organizational, communication, relational, and training skills. A strong team player and adept at creating a strong team spirit.
  • Ability to communicate and interact well with people of different ethnic, linguistic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications such as MS Office and Outlook.
  • Language: Fluency in English (required). Strong English language writing, oral communication skills, strong presentation skills, and demonstrated ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Language: Arabic skills (preferred).

Language Requirement: Fluency in English (required) / Arabic (preferred)

Travel Expectations: Ability to travel to field sites to monitor projects.
