Overview

Samaritan’s Purse is seeking to hire a Payroll Specialist to join our finance team in Boone, NC.  Candidates should have experience in the full-cycle payroll process, be highly detailed and accurate, able to multitask, and adhere to tight deadlines.  In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with a team but also work independently and take the lead in your assigned area.  Flexibility and a “whatever it takes” attitude is needed for this role.  Join the team and use your gifts to make a Kingdom impact!

 

A day in the life of a Payroll Specialist:

In the role of Payroll Specialist, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him
  • Maintain a complete understanding and ability to perform all aspects of the payroll upload and processing for all pay cycles (monthly and biweekly); Research and stay current on payroll laws and tax requirements
  • Download, reconcile and close out the Cabaret software system used in the dining room for payroll deduction each pay period. Set up employees; scan and troubleshoot any barcode/scanning issues
  • Manage all aspects of the SharePoint timekeeping file
  • Assist in preparation of quarterly and annual payroll testing, reports, audits, and filings
  • Assist in review, approval, and coding of taxable benefits
  • Prepare monthly payment schedules for all TCN/International salaries paid through Accounts Payable
  • Assist Projects Accounting with information on the international tax filing process
  • Research, analyze and resolve payroll-related questions and information requests
  • Prepare various monthly reports for management as assigned
  • Serve as backup for other payroll positions
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

  • Associates degree (A.A.) and one to three (3) years of related payroll experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • High level of confidentiality
  • Knowledge and understanding of payroll tax concepts
  • Experience in full payroll process, start to finish
  • Prior experience with PeopleSoft and Excel is preferable
  • Understanding and experience working with a financial general ledger
  • Critical thinker who enjoys problem solving and finding solutions
  • Detail oriented and able to work independently
  • Flexible to work long hours when needed to meet tight deadlines
  • Fluency in English (required)
  • 12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies preferred
