Serve with Samaritan's Purse in Alaska!

We're searching for a Maintenance Assistant to serve with our Operation Heal our Patriots project. You will be given the opportunity to assist with buildings and grounds maintenance at the Samaritan Lodge and off-site housing in Alaska.

Job Duties

  • Follows daily assignments regarding the maintenance of the buildings and grounds, including but not limited to carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and painting. Assists Maintenance Supervisor with day-to-day projects.
  • Maintains the schedule for his/her projects as well as timelines for completion.  Reports any departure from the schedule to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Reviews daily work lists with the Maintenance Supervisor at the end of each workday, in addition to routine communications throughout the day. 
  • Develops and improves skills in all aspects of building maintenance through participation in approved training sessions. 
  • Maintains a safe work environment.  Performs all work in a safe manner and follows all associated safety guidelines. 
  • Handles loading and unloading of various equipment and supplies by either boat or airplane. May also assist with fueling of these types of vehicles. 
  • Must be able to operate vehicles and equipment (i.e. ATVs, tractors and skid steer loaders).
  • Training volunteers as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor. 
  • Willing to assist the Maintenance Supervisor in other duties as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must maintain a personal relationship with and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, as well as able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school; or 1-3 years’ related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands on maintenance experience servicing machinery including lawnmowers, chainsaws, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Dependable and shows attention detail. 
  • Self-starter and willingness to be adaptable with changing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines. 

Job location and physical requirements: The work place is a remote Alaskan village setting with no road access and the summer hours will be long and require seven days of attention.
