Job Duties

The Grants Manager is the head of the Programs Department, providing strategic guidance in conjunction with the Deputy Country Director for all current and future program development, streamlining grants and proposal development processes, and serving as the main liaison between the South Sudan office and International Headquarters on all proposal and/or grant related matters. The Grants and Programs Manager will also manage a portfolio of grants within an assigned sector/sectors (e.g., WASH, FSL, Nutrition, Health, etc.). He/she will manage the complete life cycle of grants within his/her assigned portfolio, from proposal development to grants closeout.

  • Provide oversight for all grants within the Samaritan’s Purse South Sudan grants portfolio, ensuring timely submission of proposals, reports, and amendments. Liaise with Program Development Officers (PDOs) to be sure grants are on track for timely completion and that targets are being met.
  • Provide strategy and oversight for the Programs Department, evaluating potential funding opportunities, based on their fit within SP South Sudan’s vision and mission.
  • Liaison between SP and Governmental/Non-Governmental authorities for collaborative programming on behalf of Samaritan’s Purse. Integrate cluster strategies into project design, as appropriate.
  • Document and communicate to Program Managers and relevant members of the Senior Management Team any important information coming out of cluster meetings. 
  • Act as primary driver of the proposal development process, working in close collaboration with Program Managers, Area Coordinators, Logistics, and the National M&E Manager to inform project design and determine feasibility. Ensure that proposals meet all donor requirements and strategic priorities, as outlined in the donor’s guidelines for applications.
  • Assist the South Sudan senior management team with strategic planning as necessary.
  • Keep the DCD informed of project implementation status, needs, and concerns.
  • All other duties deemed necessary by the Regional and/or Country Director
  • Assess, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff.

Qualifications & Experience

  • BA degree or above in social sciences, public health, business administration or international development.
  • 6-years’ or more experience and in-depth understanding of grants/contracts management.
  • Experience in WFP, USAID, UNDP-CHF, UNHCR, UNICEF, FAO, IHA and GAC funded projects
  • Experience with FSL, WASH, health, nutrition, food aid, and gender projects.
  • Experience working for INGOs, preferably in Africa
  • International experience of development and/or humanitarian work, preferably from several countries.
  • One year of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred.
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate both financial and programmatic functions of grant management
  • Strong skills in analytical and strategic thinking
  • Proven experience in database development and management
  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills
  • Ability to develop and carry out work plans and solve problems independently
  • Ability to plan, organize, manage time, and meet deadlines in an ever changing environment
  • Ability to understand financial reports and analyze financial variances
  • Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer applications, in particular proficiency required in MS Word, MS Excel and Power Point
