A day in the life of an Emergency Health and Nutrition Technical Advisor

Job Duties

This position will be a field based, reporting directly to the Senior Health and Nutrition Technical Advisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing, managing, and ensuring the successful implementation of nutrition and health projects in two program areas. Major responsibilities include field level program implementation of health and nutrition programs in the program areas including:

  • Overseeing distribution of pharmaceuticals and nutrition commodities to supported clinics.
  • Conducting capacity building and mentoring for health staff in the program areas and on the Samaritan's Purse health and nutrition team.
  • Conducting frequent clinic visits and on job trainings to health teams.
  • Ensuring  successful utilization of the all pharmaceuticals and nutrition commodities.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of clinic implementation and tracking of program activities and supplies.
  • Program planning.
  • Liaising with local government and Non-Governmental Organization partners and internal liaising with senior staff.

Qualifications & Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must maintain a personal relationship with and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, as well as able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Nursing Degree/diploma or clinical medicine qualifications from an accredited medical school with a valid practicing license, Masters in public health is an added advantage.
  • 2-3 years nursing or clinical experience, international experience preferred.  
  • 2-3 years’ experience in emergency health and nutrition programming, international experience preferred.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in reproductive health, maternal health, new born health, vaccination and/or nutrition preferred.
  • Good in management, capacity building and mentorship of health teams
  • Ability to work in austere conditions with few amenities or resources
  • Willingness to travel in and out of field.
  • Practical, quick, reasoning skills; must be able to keep communication lines open with all parties in program of scheduling changes. 
  • Organizational and time management skills. 
  • Good interpersonal and written oral communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate activities with other agencies, build and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to understand complex security situation and advise program design accordingly.
  • Arabic a strong asset
