Samaritan’s Purse is looking for a leader to serve as our Director, International Disaster Response Unit (IDRU) with the International Projects department!

The Director, International Disaster Response Unit will ensure that our ministry goals are achieved in emergency responses by ensuring the readiness and preparedness of Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and Incident Management Team (IMT) capacity.  If you are passionate about leading people and initiatives, helping in Jesus’ Name, and have a professional background in humanitarian response, we invite you to consider this opportunity!  

You will be given the opportunity to:

  • Responsible to ensure the Christian witness and mission of Samaritan's Purse are at the forefront of organizaitonal capacity initiatives for international disaster response. 
  • Responsible to communicate vision and direction to Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) staff and Incident Management Team (IMT) staff to ensure a world-class response capacity that is committed to the mission of Samaritan’s Purse.
  • Maintain a state of organizational readiness, including the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) roster of over 1,500 on-call staff.
  • Manage capacity-building systems and oversee the development of International Headquarters staff to be ready and equipped to serve on the Incident Management Team (IMT).
  • Contribute to the vision and strategic direction of Samaritan’s Purse’s internal capabilities of staff to deploy and manage international responses.
  • Maintain and cultivate standards, ensuring that there is Samaritan’s Purse representation and participation in key global standard setting platforms and institutions. Maintain awareness of industry standards in disaster response.
  • Ensure lesson learning through After Action Reviews for improved response, preparation and readiness.
  • Work with Human Resources to meet organizational capacity goals for the recruitment of Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) staff.

We you need to bring:

  • A personal, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and desire to continue being an active, consistent witness for Him.
  • Master’s Degree in public administration, international relations, non-profit management, disaster management, international development, business, or relevant field preferred; or 7 to 10 years of related humanitarian experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 12 credit hour of college-level Biblical studies is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in international disaster response.
  • Possess strong organizational, communication and networking skills.
  • Enjoy and prioritize growing a team both spiritually and technically.
