Samaritan’s Purse mobilizes and equips thousands of volunteers to provide emergency aid to U.S. victims of wildfires, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. The Program Manager implements plans designed to further the ministry of the Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief Program with specific responsibility for assisting with the recruitment and development of volunteer teams; shepherding and providing training for volunteers; recruiting churches to participate in the project and responding to disasters as requested.


  • Supports the Projects Department Director for North America Projects by developing skills in all areas of volunteer management and recruiting.
  • Assists the Manager of U.S. Disaster Relief in developing church relationships and implementing a volunteer training plan, and training volunteers.
  • Works to establish communication with all Government Agencies and other Relief Organizations.
  • Represents the ministry at conferences and speaking engagements.
  • Responds to disasters as requested and maintains the SP equipment in a response-ready mode at all times.
  • While on response greets and welcomes volunteer teams; make daily visits to project sites, (construction or relief); assist with delivery of tools and supplies as needed; provide project site instruction and direct volunteer teams work; make sure teams are doing quality work. This will require hands on leadership with teams in the field.
  • Ensures safety/training procedures are being carried out.
  • Provides procurement and logistical support for field projects.
  • Oversees construction and other work done by independent contractors (roofing, drywall, mold remediation, etc.).
  • Maintains accurate listings and placement of all assigned Samaritan’s Purse U. S. Disaster Relief field inventory.
  • Oversees financial transactions: prepare daily/monthly report of activities; hold/attend regular weekly staff meetings.
  • Is responsible for maintaining/operating all SP vehicles/equipment, fully equipped 20-ft trailer or Disaster Relief Unit for use in responding within the state or with SP on larger responses and is to use it only while conducting business for Samaritan’s Purse.
  • Assumes the lead in assessment activities when disaster strikes.
  • Works in a leadership capacity to set up programs, work with identified church partners, interact with the local emergency management officials, and organize, train and direct volunteers.
  • In the event of a larger response, acts as Program Manager, Assistant Program Manager or Volunteer Coordinator, as needed.
  • Participates in daily devotions and prayer support for ministry, its donors and volunteers.
  • Maintains a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public.


  • This position requires frequent travel both within and outside of the region. 
  • A current CDL (Commercial Drivers License) (Minimum Class B working toward Class A)
  • Valid Department of Transportation Medical Card required.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred.
