Samaritan's Purse is seeking a highly qualified Heavy Equipment Manager for North American Ministries who can manage, direct, train and work alongside Heavy Equipment Operators (HEOs) and volunteers in the safe operation and utilization of heavy equipment. This includes skid steers, mini skid steers, excavators, dump trucks, bulldozers and other related equipment on disaster work sites. This individual will conduct training with the HEOs and volunteers in the proper and safe operation of heavy equipment.  You will ensure compliance with all Federal, State and DOT regulations. This requires travel and extended stays at disaster sites for North American Ministries.  This position is based in North Wilkesboro, NC.    

A day in the life of a Heavy Equipment Manager:

In the role of Heavy Equipment Manager, you will have the opportunity to: 

  • Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him.
  • Manage Heavy Equipment Operators' (HEOs) duties, training and scheduling of work assignments to ensure proper and safe operation of all heavy equipment.  Maintain heavy equipment in constant "response-ready" mode.
  • Travel to field sites for HEO and Site Leadership Team (SLT) supervision and on-site training.  Provide guidance in day-to-day management, coordination and direction of the HEOs.  
  • Be actively involved in the training of HEOs and SLT on proper techniques and procedures of heavy equipment operation.  Develop best safety practices for staff and volunteers while traveling on deployments.
  • Ensure quality control on heavy equipment operation for all work completed by the HEOs and volunteers.  Verify maintenance records, repair work and damage reports are properly recorded on paper and entered into the ManagerPlus computer software.
  • Stay abreast of Federal and State DOT rules and regulations to maintain lawful compliance.  Work with department leadership and Safety Coordinator on regulations to ensure lawful compliance.
  • Communicate updates on HEO staff and equipment at staff meetings.  Establish best practice logistical scenarios for deployments and stand-downs.  Conduct regular subordinate team meetings and bi-monthly meetings including Program Managers and Assistant Program Managers.
  • Follow policies and procedures of Samaritan's Purse as set forth in the Policy Manual.
  • Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, donors and volunteers.
  • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries and the general public.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A minimum of seven (7) years' related experience operating heavy equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team that may be dispersed among various disaster sites
  • General computer skills required
  • 12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies (required); if not already completed, opportunity to meet and complete requirement within one year is available upon hire

Travel Expectations:   Requires domestic travel of 180-237 days per calendar year
