Samaritans Purse is actively seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist in our Facilities Department at our International Headquarters located in Boone, NC. This position implements safety programs in compliance with state and federal Occupational Safety and Health organizations, as well as other related safety and health regulations. A Day in the Life of an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist:

In the role of an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist, you will have the opportunity to:

• Maintain a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
• Evaluate existing related programs at all domestic facilities.
• Obtain and retain all continuing education requirements to maintain compliance, proficiency, regulatory awareness, and subject matter expertise.   
• Coordinate existing safety programs with the development and implementation of new and updated Health and Safety Programs for all Samaritans Purse domestic facilities and sites.
• Communicate with domestic staff at remote locations monthly to ensure collaboration and open dialogue.
• Visit all domestic facilities (other than Alaska) semiannually (or as needed) to perform inspections and walkthroughs with insurance providers and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
• Respond collaboratively with on-site personnel to unscheduled regulatory inquiries and inspections.
• Proactively communicate all significant EH&S issues, recommendations, and responses to the Director of Facilities, the Chief Compliance and Risk Officer, and the Chief Operations Officer. 
• Maintain effective domestic EH&S policies and procedures for the Ministry.
• Create and provide, or facilitate, all required EH&S training for impacted staff and capture attendance for all training.
• Work with internal stakeholders responsible for managing insurance policies and external vendor relations.  
• Develop and implement inspection policies and procedures and a schedule of routine inspections. Draft inspection reports to document inspection findings.
• Ensure that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
• Maintain records of discharge or employee exposure to hazardous waste and pollutants, as required.
• Report routine EH&S issues to the Director of Facilities, and keep up-to-date records for safety inspections and safety training, submitting reports and logs every week or as otherwise directed.
• Share responsibility for snow removal and shuttle bus driving duties on a rotating basis.
• Follow the policies and procedures of Samaritans Purse as outlined in the Policy Manual.
• Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, donors, and volunteers.
• Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, volunteers, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public within the workplace, in the community, and before the general public.
• All other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

Associates degree (A.A.) from an accredited college or university and four (4) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must complete the US Department of Labors 30-hour Outreach Training Program (OSHA30) within 30 days of hire and on an annual basis.  Must also complete any required compliance-related training to meet any state or federal requirement as the Ministrys EH&S representative.
