We are hiring a Travel Health Manager to serve on our team in Boone, NC. Samaritans Purse requires frequent travel globally by employees and volunteers to regions prone to both disasters and disease outbreaks.  Our staff and volunteers must take proper travel precautions to mitigate such inherent risks to trauma and illness.  The travel health manager serves to fulfill this objective through oversight and implementation of the travel health program for the Chief Medical Officer. A day in the life of a Travel Health Manager:

At Samaritans Purse, the Gospel really is the center of all we do!  We start each day with a time of devotions and spend time praying for each other, our staff and volunteers who serve around the globe. 

In the role of Travel Health Manager, you will have the opportunity to:

  •        Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him
  •        Maintain current and country specific Risk Advisory and Recommendations for international travelers
  •        Monitor the vaccine management system (tracks all required and country specific recommended vaccines for each traveler)
  •        Work collaboratively with the Infectious Disease and Health Information Specialist to provide global epidemiological surveillance and notify leadership of emerging outbreaks and epidemics that may interfere with ministry specific operations
  •        Promote and help facilitate all travelers to appropriate clinicians for pre-travel consultations and post-travel illness
  •        Provide standby phone/telemedicine services to address symptoms/illnesses/incidents for Samaritans Purse employees and volunteers while traveling by applying diagnostic and clinical expertise and familiarity with management of domestic and internationally based endemic diseases.
  •        Provide guidance and steps of precaution to Samaritans Purse leadership during epidemics to ensure traveler safety and to minimize disruption of ministry operations
  •        Assist the CMO during medical emergencies to provide proper medivac services for all travelers in need of evacuation by applying excellent clinical skills in emergency-based medical care.
  •        All other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience:

       Masters Degree and a minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience as a mid-level provider such as a Nurse Practitioner or Physicians Assistant. Masters degree in Public Health (M.P.H.) or advanced degree in infectious disease or related field with prior experience in health program management preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  •        Ability to utilize significant skillsets in both clinical medical management and public health measures. 
  •        Clinical skills in emergency-based medical care
  •        Ability to respond to trends and regulation changes
  •        Ability to develop and carry out plans and solve problems independently
  •        Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment
  •        Aptitude with medical informatics and epidemiological statistical data

       12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies (required); if not already completed, opportunity to meet and complete requirement is available upon hire

Job Location: Boone, NC

Type:  Regular, Full-Time

Language Requirement: Fluency in English (required)

Travel Expectations: 10-12 days/annually; required travel documents and vaccinations for entry into foreign countries will be necessary
