Samaritan's Purse is seeking a WASH Project Engineer to join the International Water Unit team at our location in North Wilkesboro, NC. As a WASH Project Engineer, you will assist in the overall water, sanitation, and hygiene efforts of Samaritan's Purse. This position will specifically utilize your engineering skills to design, implement, train, and advise on emergency WASH interventions for our disaster relief efforts.  International travel will be required. A day in the life of a WASH Project Engineer:

At Samaritan's Purse, the Gospel really is the center of all we do!  We start each day with a time of devotions and spend time praying for each other and our staff and volunteers who serve around the globe.

In the role of WASH Project Engineer, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him.
  • Design, order, fabricate, and test inter-related systems for water collection, treatment, storage, and distribution.
  • Prepare technical drawings and specifications.
  • Refine designs based on field performance.
  • Advise on the technical design and implementation of field projects and provide assessments/reports of current efforts.
  • Work with field staff to integrate spiritual aspects into each WASH intervention.
  • Provide technical backstopping for WASH projects as needed.
  • Collaborate with Emergency Medical Response (EMR) team within the International Health Unit (IHU) to promote continuous improvement in EMR WASH systems.
  • Liaise with the Emergency Water Response (EWR) Readiness Specialist to create and revise Bills of Material (BOMs) for production.
  • Prepare setup, operation, and maintenance documentation.
  • Train others on the installation, operation, and maintenance of water systems.
  • Actively develop professional knowledge and skills to stay current on trends in global water, sanitation, and hygiene. 
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

  • Ability to design, build, test, and refine functioning mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of 3-D modeling software such as Solidworks (preferred), Fusion360, or SketchUp.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in civil, environmental, industrial, or mechanical engineering, construction management, or related field as well as four to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Significant international experience and demonstrated success in cross-cultural communication and ministry preferred. Professional engineer credentials strongly preferred. Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred.

Language Requirement: Fluency in English (required); Knowledge of French and/or Spanish (preferred)

Travel Expectations: Travel Expectation: 60-70 days/annually; required travel documents and vaccinations for entry into foreign countries will be necessary
