North American Ministries responds quickly when natural disasters strike, deploying an army of staff and volunteers to come alongside homeowners to bring relief and compassion in Jesus’ Name. Key employees, like the Fleet Mechanic/Driver, are essential in safely transporting the supplies and equipment to disaster sites to be used by the volunteers and staff.  Maintaining the efficiency and safety of the equipment is a top priority. This position is based at our ministry site in North Wilkesboro, NC.

**Requires frequent travel within the U.S. averaging 180-237 days per year**

A day in the life of a “Fleet Mechanic/Driver”:

At Samaritan’s Purse, the Gospel really is the center of all we do!  We start each day with a time of devotions and spend time praying for each other, our staff and volunteers who serve around the globe. 

In the role of Fleet Mechanic/Driver, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
  • Ensure the mechanical repair, upkeep and cleanliness of the department’s vehicle fleet and equipment. Maintain response ready mode at all times for all Samaritan’s Purse equipment and vehicles.
  • Ensure maintenance logs and permits are kept up-to-date for all vehicles and equipment.
  • Remain familiar with Federal DOT laws concerning the use and transportation of U.S. Disaster Relief equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate listing and placement of all Samaritan’s Purse U.S. Disaster Relief inventory.
  • Travel to field sites as necessary to maintain vehicles and equipment.
  • Provide procurement and logistical support for field projects.
  • Respond to disasters as requested maintaining equipment and delivering tools and supplies as needed with their assigned disaster relief unit.
  • Provide project site instruction and direct volunteer teams work, ensuring safety and quality of our work.
  • Responsible to follow all Samaritan’s Purse purchasing and reporting policies as described in the Samaritan’s Purse Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Be in contact with Samaritan’s Purse beneficiaries (children, young adults, adults at risk) promoting and safeguarding their welfare within the context of Samaritan’s Purse operations.
  • Follow policies and procedures of Samaritan’s Purse as set forth in the Policy Manual.
  • Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, donors and volunteers.
  • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public.
  • Be assigned other duties that are not specifically identified within the content of the job description.


  • MUST maintain a current CDL and a valid DOT Medical Card
  • Must acquire a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a valid DOT Medical Card (Driving School provided, if needed) within one year of hire
  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six (6) month to one (1) year related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to maintain and trouble-shoot issues with equipment including but not limited to tractor-trailers as well as small equipment such as chain saws, skid steers, and commercial refrigeration
  • Able to deploy with short notice for two (2) or more weeks at a time
