Seeking a motivated and passionate professional to serve as the International Disaster Response Unit (IDRU) Technical Advisor for Samaritan’s Purse’s International Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) program. Description of Job duties:

Preparedness and Curriculum Development

·       Coordinate and co-facilitate US, international, and affiliate based DART trainings.

·       Develop and facilitate Incident Management Team trainings.

·       Develop individual disaster response capacity by designing and updating content of training modules.

·       Contribute to the disaster response manuals outlining best practices and establish SP protocols and standards for common disaster and sector specific responses such as shelter, food/NFI distributions, medical, WASH etc.

·       Contribute to the development and implementation of progressive training strategies and professional development plans for DART members.  

Disaster Response

·       Provide surge capacity for IMT or DART deployments; assume additional responsibilities of the Manager of the IDRU during absence due to travel, disaster response, etc.

·       Provide on-the-job training, support, and technical guidance for DART programs and operations during deployments.

·       Support the implementation of standard operating procedures for DART Member roles. 

·       Develop DART tools such as standard disaster relief grant proposals by sector and provide proposal support for disaster responses as needed.

·       Advise country offices on individual preparations for disaster readiness and response, when requested.

Strategic Engagement

·       Investigate and develop new opportunities for partnership, and liaise with desirable disaster response organizations such as the UN, OFDA, FEMA, institutions of higher education, military branches, and other agencies for improved coordination, information sharing, and developing additional disaster response tools.

·       Support SP IHQ departments such as Communications, Donor Ministries, and Projects - Program Development Division as it relates to their roles in identifying potential funding for disaster preparedness programs.


·       Participate in after action review after each response.

·       Support hiring of DART members through a regular review of applicants.

·       Follow policies and procedures of Samaritan’s Purse as set forth in the Policy Manual.

·       Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, its donor and volunteers. 

·       Assess, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff.

During a disaster, this position may supervise the Incident Management Team at Samaritan’s Purse headquarter or supervise the Disaster Assistance Response Team on the ground.

Job requirements:

·       Maintain a personal relationship with and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.

·       Master’s in Public Administration, International Relations, Non-profit Management, Disaster Management, International Development, Business, or relevant field preferred.

·       2 - 3+ years international field experience.

·       2 - 3+ years of management experience.

·       Ability to research, write, and present on topics related to humanitarian aid and disaster response.

·       Problem-Solving/Analysis - ability to proactively identify areas of opportunity and to provide resourceful and creative solutions to improve business processes and achieve results.

·       Project/Time Management - ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and without direct supervision.

·       Ability to interact with and understand motivations of employees from many countries and cultures.

·       Effective organizational and interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication skills.

·       Resilient, able to work demanding schedules and operate in crisis environments.
