We are seeking a Deputy Country Director (DCD) to provide management of all programmatic and logistical operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The DCD will manage in-country activity, while promoting excellence and integrity, wise stewardship of resources, operational efficiency and coordination, compliance with Samaritan's Purse policy, and constant growth in capacity.  The DCD directly oversees all operations (base management, logistics, procurement, HR management and training, security, travel and communications). Together with the Country Director, the DCD will engage with donor and government relations. Will you join us in reaching out to those in the DRC with the hope of Jesus Christ?

A day in the life of a Deputy Country Director:

In the role of Deputy Country Director you will:

  • Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him
  • Review & approve all program reports being submitted to funders & donors
  • Work closely with Senior Programs Manager to ensure full operational support for all project activities and personnel
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager to ensure efficient budget management and financial compliance of all operations
  • Work with DRC Security Manager to help coordinate total Security Plan, ensuring thorough and up-to-the-minute measures for prevention of problems and preparedness for all eventualities
  • Facilitate successive and continuous program development with high standards in appropriateness, timeliness, and effectiveness of sector programs for sustainability, donor compliance, and accountability
  • Assist Country Director with strategic planning, creating and articulating a clear vision and strategy, and developing and fulfilling the Country Plan
  • Act as "Officer in Charge" when Country Director is absent
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and a minimum of three to five years’ related international work experience.  Master’s degree in International Development or related field preferred
  • Previous experience working overseas, particularly in Africa
  • Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies strongly required
  • Experience managing a large team; Strong relational skills and financial management skills
  • Knowledge of project planning and implementation
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Possess diplomacy and negotiating skills; Clear understanding of working with major donors, their perspectives, requirements and standards
  • Flexibility, adaptability and ability to work with a diverse team in a pressured environment
  • Spiritually mature, focused on the spiritual well-being of your team and goal of sharing the Gospel
  • Ability to travel to field sites to monitor projects
  • Extensive field humanitarian experience in a management role with ability to lead large cross cultural teams
