Seeking a passionate and motivated professional to serve as the Children’s Heart Project Patient Coordinator for Samaritan’s Purse. Children's Heart Project (CHP) arranges lifesaving heart operations for hundreds of children who live in countries where the required medical expertise and equipment are not available. Since 1997, Children's Heart Project has arranged heart surgery for more than 1,000 children. The Children’s Heart Project Patient Coordinator role is critical to this program’s success. This is a unique, fulfilling opportunity to help children receive the gift of life, but most importantly, you are helping children and their families hear and see the life-saving truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  

The Coordinator oversees and manages the early stages of identifying children and liaising with the appropriate partners to drive the course of getting children to the point of being confirmed for surgery.

Travel up to 8 trips, 50 days per year.

Description of Job duties:

  • Serve as a liaison for the Director of Children’s Heart Project with doctors, hospitals, transports, and patients. Solidify and develop relationships between international medical personnel, hospitals and Children’s Heart Project.
  • Attend echocardiology screening events in the countries in which we work and enter written data into echocardiogram machine.
  • Manage and maintain all medical records for children on Evaluation lists.
  • Maintain databases for children on the Current Case List including adding information and recommendations from evaluation notes of visiting cardiologists. Ensure information on children’s files are meticulously accurate. Organize and inventory Echocardiograms, x-rays and other medical documents.
  • Strengthen working knowledge of Vivid Q echo machine, with the ability to enter general patient information, oversee administrative functions of the machine and retrieve echo studies to burn on CD/DVD or transmit electronically.
  • Recruit Pediatric Cardiologist Volunteers to conduct international screening events. Coordinate screening dates with national Cardiologists and CHP Program Mangers. Develop patient screening list with CHP Program Managers.
  • Implement training of new international Children’s Heart Project office managers/coordinators with regards to establishing standardized procedures in the set-up of medical records and patient protocols.
  • Assist Director in patient assessment process, matching children’s conditions with expertise of specific hospitals, and facilitating information to hospital. Work with international medical staff and field offices to identify children most in need of surgical intervention.
  • Liaison with hospitals to obtain proper documentation and visa letters and to rectify outstanding balances and bills being sent to the host family and Samaritan’s Purse.
  • Develop Fact Sheets and Prayer Cards for each accepted Children’s Heart Project group.
  • Travel as requested to transport children back to their country of origin, to visit Children’s Heart Project field offices, to support during surgeries or the death of a child and/or to facilitate the relationship between host churches and families and their international guests (i.e. children, accompanying family members, and interpreters).
  • Network with physicians and nurses by attending conferences and seminars related to the project to increase the visibility of Children’s Heart Project.
  • Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, its donor and volunteers. 
  • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public.
  • Assess, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff.

Job requirements:

  • Maintain a personal relationship with and be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or 1 - 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Medical background such as Echocardiographer or Registered Nurse (RN) preferred.
  • Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred.
  • Exhibit keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Exceed in effective organizational and interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication skills.
  • Manage multiple tasks under pressure and without direct supervision.
  • Champion the team - thrive on the achievements of the team and not individual success.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
