Staff Accountant (Sales & Use Tax)

For over 40 years, Samaritan's Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ. Our headquarters is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Boone, North Carolina.

You will be given the opportunity to:

  • Manage daily general ledger activity, including daily contribution transfers and reconciliation, recording food service activity, review and record PayPal activity, coordinate and record Square (sales) activity.
  • Provide monthly examination, analysis, and interpretation of general ledge accounts.
  • Monitor and maintain exemption certificates in multiple states in conjunction with Legal Department. Track nexus status of Samaritan’s Purse in all states based on consultation with Legal Department. Maintain tax calendar to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct tax research projects as necessary to advise Controller and/or CFO.
  • Prepare and file sales and use tax returns on a timely basis; review monthly sales and purchase journals for accuracy of taxes withheld and paid. 
  • Remit sales and use taxes due and claim refundable amounts in exempt states.
  • Collaborate and assist with setup and implementation of automated sales and use tax systems.
  • Oversee and respond to any tax inquires, reviews and audits by state tax authorities.

We ask that you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree preferably with a Finance, Accounting, Business, Insurance or Risk Management concentration.
  • One to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as financial reports, technical journals, and procedure manuals.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills to handle common inquiries and complaints.
  • Strong Christian character and support of the mission and objectives of Samaritan’s Purse.
