Description of Job duties:

  • Screens pedestrian and vehicular traffic for authorization to enter the premises.
  • Operates various equipment, including but not limited to card access, fire and burglar alarm, video cameras and ministry vehicles.
  • Reports hazardous conditions, such as water leaks, fire, and safety hazards.
  • Reports damage to ministry or employee property.
  • Documents incoming emergency calls during non-business hours and distributes information accordingly.
  • In case of emergency, follows call-in procedures.
  • Is familiar with all Samaritan's Purse facilities, policies, procedures, and regulations that affect the safety and security of Samaritan's Purse building occupants.
  • Avoids direct confrontation with identified threatening individuals unless imminent danger to self or building occupants exists. The preferred method for addressing threatening or unwelcome individuals is through Local Law Enforcement.
  • Reports for duty in uniform, with all equipment issued and draws any additional security equipment as directed by the Security Director. Conducts oneself as a security professional at all times, presenting a professional image and presence, and creating an atmosphere deterring undesirable activity.
  • Monitors activity across the campus through regularly scheduled physical patrols and use of video surveillance equipment.
  • Controls access to the campus during non-business hours applying Samaritan's Purse Policy regarding access.
  • Monitors guest and visitor traffic during all business hours applying observation skills and techniques to identify unwelcome visitors or ‘persons of ill intent.’
  • Greets all staff and visitors whenever practical, so as to maintain consistent visible presence.
  • Follows departmental procedures regarding engagement and response to undesirable activity.
  • Documents all noteworthy activities in shift log or appropriate incident report.
  • Verifies functionality of all equipment during every shift, including radio, cell phone and video surveillance equipment. Clearly and promptly documents all malfunctions.
  • Opens/closes and secures all buildings as scheduled by Security Director, or Director of Facilities.
  • Records the names of employees arriving after/before ‘normal’ business hours, as well as those of employees inside Samaritan’s Purse facilities after 2100 hours. (Only pre-authorized employees are permitted after 2100 hours.)
  • Checks doors/windows, and turns off unauthorized lights during patrols, and includes any actions taken in shift report.
  • Reports hazardous conditions, such as water leaks, fire and safety hazards, reports damage to ministry or employee property and report any maintenance required to building interior and exterior areas.
  • Documents incoming emergency calls during non-business hours and distributes information accordingly.
  • Monitors and maintains Computerized Access Control System. Reports any discrepancies to the Security Director.
  • In case of emergency, notifies the first available person on the call-in sheet.

Job requirements:

  • Basic Law Enforcement Training and minimum 2 years’ experience as Law Enforcement Officer or equivalent required. Must be eligible to complete/pass annual PPS training and certification as a PPS Officer through the North Carolina State Attorney General’s office.
  • Basic keyboarding and computer skills strongly preferred.

Shift: Monday-Friday 10:00 PM-06:00 AM
