The GIRS Advisor is responsible for managing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) operations for the International Projects Department as well as supporting the reporting system in place that holds the data for our monitoring and evaluation metrics.  We are searching for someone who is a problem solver, thinking with a broad vision, on how to use data and metrics information to help our international teams.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Support the International Projects Department, Field Offices, and Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) deployments with GIS mapping, analysis, mobile field data collection, and with other innovative GIS solutions. Administer, maintain, update, and advance the interactive web mapping and related GIS resources of all Samaritan’s Purse work sectors. Conduct geographic analysis of International Projects field data for the ministry.
  • Recommend software, hardware and related GIS items in cooperation with Information Technologies and immediate supervisor. Act as liaison with Information Technologies department to ensure that all Projects GIS databases and software are in accordance with IT systems.
  • Maintain regular and open communications with management team and field staff to collect information and assess mapping needs.
  • Serve as point person and resource to field offices. Offer informed briefings of relevant data and map products available, and professionally present regular written and oral reports to IHQ projects management, field office staff, donors, and local Government officials, as assigned.
  • Serve as the primary administrator of SPRS for activity monitoring, to ensure accuracy and integrity of database information. Serve as primary trainer for on-going SPRS implementation and support for all country offices including. IMT/DART SPRS training.
  • Travel internationally to Samaritan’s Purse field locations to provide GIS, mobile technology and SPRS trainings. 20-30% international travel required.  Position is based in Boone, NC.
  • Maintain a system of reports and metrics pertaining to project activity. Develop and update reports and presentations with current metric information for Regional, Field Office, and IHQ Leadership review. Ensure achievement reports are presentation ready at all times.

  • Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or 4-10 years of related experience and/or training
  • Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred
  • Leadership Ability Strong computer skills and mathematical reasoning
