Summary:

Food Assistance Advisor (FAA) will, with Head of Food Programs, provide technical support to all Samaritan’s Purse (SP) food assistance programs around the world.

Job duties:

Objective 1: Technical support to programs and staff:

  • The FAA will regularly update the SP food training manual, and ensure training compliance with other SP technical standards initiatives.
  • Travel to field sites as needed for temporary assigned field responsibility, project assessment, or other work as assigned.
  • Work with SP country food program managers to develop technically sound food aid programs and build the capacity of field staff in food program operational management, evaluation and reporting.
  • Stay current with global food programming trends and regulation changes, and become a resource center for SP food security and food assistance programming. The FAA will specially focus on ensuring the compliance of SP food programs with donor requirements, as well as normal international financial, operational and ethical standards and audit requirements.
  • Assess, manage, and report critical physical, emotional, or spiritual concerns of supervised staff. * Technical guidance and review of emergency food security assessments/surveys. * Provide support to technical interviews of potential food assistance candidates. * Ensure that food security programs are consistent with SP core Christian values, and that SP food programs are making an appropriate Christ centered contribution to work of the international community amongst the world’s hurting peoples. - Utilize POD and webinars to share relevant training topics and themes with SP field-based staff.

Objective 2: Development of food assistance programs

  • Work with field food program managers, CD’s and the PDD to develop and review project proposals addressing the food programming needs (food assistance, CTP).
  • With the Head of Food Programs, prepare periodic reports to the Director of Program Development on food program status to assist the overall work of the PDD.
  • Monitor global food security trends and identify opportunity areas

Objective 3: Expand SP representation and visibility

  • Meet with regional and country donor community as needed and cultivate relationships with other food assistance agencies at the technical level. At country level, the FAA will assist (the) CD’s and country program managers in managing these relationships and train SP staff toward cooperation with food program staff of other agencies, so as to ensure SP knowledge of and cooperation with the international food assistance community, and thus improve SP technical capacity.
  • Represent SP at relevant donor forums, including WFP/FAO global Food Security Cluster (gFSC), USAID/Food-for-Peace consultative meetings, TOPS/Food Security Network functions, etc.
  • Build linkages within the international humanitarian / food security community to position SP for strategic partnerships.
  • Track SP food assistance activity globally

Job requirements:

  • Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training in International program management; or equivalent combination of education and food program experience.
  • Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred.
  • Some existing knowledge of USG, UN and European proposal writing and reporting systems and regulations essential.
  • Ability to read, write and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations and procedure manuals is necessary.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
